Hundreds of developers at Microsoft Corp. and SAP will work together on a new product designed to link together their business software in the most significant leap forward in their 15-year partnership, the companies said on Tuesday.
The new product, code-named "Mendocino," will tie together Microsoft's Office applications such as email and spreadsheets and SAP's business planning software, which the companies said would save customers time of duplicated data entries.
The two companies, leaders in their various sectors, have briefly talked about a potential merger in light of the consolidation wave in the software industry. But they decided to stick to the partnership instead.
