If you have bad credit due to bad luck such as a being out of work or if you were unable to pay your bills due to health reasons, talk to your lender, work out a payment plan in order to reduce the risk of the lender reporting poor credit history.  Many lenders will work with you if you can keep up with a payment plan.  So don't resign to bad credit, repair it.
