It is important that you protect yourself from the weather during the year.   Many people fall ill due to the weather, here are some common sense tips to protect yourself from the weather in order to stay healthy and at peak health.

During the Cold Months
Your mother had probably told you a hundred times, but it is really important to dress properly when going out into the cold.  Wear a hat, scarf, gloves and boots.  If you are being exposed to the cold weather you can deplete your energy and lower your immune system allowing your body to be more open to catching a cold or the flu.

During the rain
Stay as dry as possible, always pack an umbrella in your car or bag.  You never know when it will suddenly rain.  If you get wet and are at home, make sure to change your clothes and even take a warm shower and dry off properly.  Being out in the rain can lower your body temperature and decrease the strength of your immune system faster than other types of weather.

Stay cool in the summer
For many people and especially the elderly, it is important to stay cool in the summer time.  Make sure you drink lots of fluids and stay away from salty foods.  If you don’t have an air conditioner, buy a fan or stay in the shade.  Try to do your outdoor chores in the early morning or late evening when the temperature is at its lowest.  It is also important to protect your skin from the sun by wearing a hat and sunscreen.
