If you have ever ran up a flight of steps, you have probably realized just how much effort and stamina it takes your body to climb stairs.  Step machines focus on that very movement making climbing stairs and effective exercise.  Step machines simulate you climbing steps and the benefits of a step machine is an increase in stamina as well as toning of your calves, hips and thighs, as well as other muscle groups.

Step machines come in many varieties but many of them are available in home gym models.  Many step machines include a place for each foot as you move your body in the motion of climbing stairs.  Other types of machines have an added twist bar that gives your upper body some stability as well as provides exercise for it as well.

Step machines are extremely popular in professional gyms and there are many great step machines available for the home as well.  Expect to pay from about $100 to $300 for a step machine with lots of great features.  Some step machines add a control panel to set the resistance, count calories, display time and monitor heart rate.  You can even find work out DVD’s that compliment your step machine work outs.  If you are looking for a great way to tone up your calves, thighs and hips while building stamina look into step machines.
